Woking Road toucan crossing
When are the night closures?
So that resurfacing work can be carried out night closures are needed. Thefinal night closure will take place in Monday 14 July to white line the road. Find out more
Why does the work take nine weeks?
Due to the high traffic volume in this area, a full closure of the road is not possible. As the work area is also close to residential properties, night-time work is restricted, so residents are not disturbed.
To minimise disruption, the work will be carried out in sections, with only one lane closed at a time. Traffic management measures will be removed at the end of each day to help keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.
There will be a night closure on part of Woking Road on Monday 14 July from 7pm to 5am.
Project Details
Work has started on a new crossing, which will replace the existing uncontrolled crossing between Old Woking Road and Fir Tree Road. A toucan crossing allows both pedestrians and cyclists to cross at the same time, improving safety and accessibility.
- Duration: Approximately 9 weeks (subject to weather conditions)
- Working hours: 7.30 am to 5.00 pm
- Evening/weekend work: The final overnight closure will be on Monday 14 July to white line the road.
Temporary Measures:
- Woking Road will remain open throughout the works. Only one lane will be closed at a time, either Northbound or Southbound, depending on the work requirements.
- Single-lane closures will be in place daily between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Closed lanes will reopen after 4:00 pm each day.
- To ensure public safety, a temporary pedestrian crossing will be installed. During the installation of the temporary crossing, a pedestrian diversion route will be in place.
- Temporary traffic lights will be used to safely manage vehicle flow during the works.
- Full overnight closures will be needed to resurface and white line the road. A diversion route will be clearly marked out. More information
