HIGHWAYS AND TRANSPORT

Bellfields Road Improvements

  • Why are you doing the work in the summer holidays?

The works have been timed to coincide with the summer holidays to minimise disruption to school traffic and ensure a safer environment while children are away. It's also a period with generally lower traffic volumes, allowing the work to progress more efficiently.

  • Why does the work take nine weeks?

The work will take nine weeks as we have to maintain 24-hour access for residents who live in the street, as well as access for people using the school and community café. As it’s a residential area, we are not doing any night work to avoid disturbing those living nearby.

  • Can I still walk along Bellfields Road?

Q: Can I still walk along Bellfield Road?

Access to Bellfield Road remains open. However, the footpath running alongside Weyfield Academy toward Waterside Road will be closed temporarily. Pedestrians will be diverted via Woking Road, with clearly marked signs and barriers to guide you safely along the route.

  • What is happening to the footpath next to Weyfield Academy?

The footpath alongside Weyfield Academy that connects Bellfield Road to Waterside Road will be temporarily closed. Pedestrians should follow the diversion via Woking Road in both directions. Clear signs and barriers are in place to guide you safely, and the public right of way remains open.

Work will start on 23 July 2025.

Project Details

Bellfields Road is currently a cul-de-sac but will soon become one of the key access roads into the new development, ultimately connecting to a larger road network. To prepare for this several improvements are planned:

  • On-street parking will be reorganised. New parking bays will be added on Parsons Green to accommodate two-way traffic.
  • A raised table near Weyfield Academy will help slow traffic and improve safety for pedestrians.
  • Bollards will be installed to prevent vehicles from parking on footways and keep pedestrian zones safe.

  • Duration: Approximately 9 weeks (subject to weather conditions)
  • Working hours: 7.30 am to 5.00 pm

Traffic management

  • To safely carry out the Bellfields Road improvements there will be some traffic management measures in place including:
  • A temporary two-way traffic light system to manage traffic.
  • ‘No parking’ cones will be placed 12 to 24 hours before work begins in affected areas. At times, it may be necessary to temporarily relocate some residential parking spaces.
  • The footpath that runs parallel to Weyfield Academy, leading to Waterside Road, will be closed to the public and a diversion will be in place.

All other public rights of way will remain open throughout the work programme.
