New Primary Substation


Upgrades to the electricity network form a key part of the Weyside Urban Regeneration to ensure a reliable power supply, for new and existing residents.  The UKPN will be providing a new electricity substation to strengthen regional power infrastructure, and laying a high-voltage cable to improve reliance of the electricity supply.


Project Scope:


  • Construction of a new electricity substation, including associated underground cables.
  • Location: Sludge lagoon site.
  • Purpose: To provide power for the new Weyside Urban Village.


  • Upgrade to the Guildford Grid Substation.
  • Location: Woodbridge Road.
  • Purpose:  To improve the electricity network.


Work is taking place between 15th April 2024 and the end of June 2025. The UKPN website has more information about the work programme on their website.  UPKN website.
